I am deeply saddened to learn of George's passing. He was a co-worker of mine in the Chemistry Department at Penn. It was my first professional job and we were both facility directors and shared many experiences. I learned much from him, and he greatly helped me in some areas. I appreciated his no-nonsense approach and willingness to stand up for what was right. I offer my condolences and whatever help I can to his family and friends.

George Furst left our world 2 months ago today, I today listened again to the dozen or so voicemails I have from George saved to my phone as we discussed the concerns and plans for the 800 installation in December and January up and to 2 days before the sad news reached me. I did this just to hear his voice, why? Well for 20+ years not a month went by where we had not had a conversation about something in the lab or something going on in Bruker. We exchanged plenty of emails, but George always called as well. I miss those calls... and I miss person on the other end, who would always ask before ending the call "So how are things there and with you?"
My most sincere Condolences to George Family whom I and multitudes of other met with at the funeral. I do not know if many will read this or come back to this page at this later date. But I wanted to share with other that George is not and will not be soon forgotten.

DJ and I are very saddened to hear of your loss. George was an amazing influence on us both allowing us to take over the leadership of NMR facilities at our places of work. He taught us so much about NMR, running a facility and how to interpret and set up experiments. I had the opportunity to work closely with him as his student intern and when I heard the news, it was like losing a member of my own family. May he be looking down on all of us with pride as we carry on his legacy.
Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends at this time.

Dear Patricia, I am sorry to hear about your loss. This is a very difficult moment for you and your family and I wanted to be close to you in my prayers. I was a graduate student at Penn and I literally owe a debt of gratitude to George and to you for all he has done for me and for the other students. This is a legacy that he left behind for you having touched the life of so many student in a positive way. I will reach out to the little sister of the poors to make a donation and this last gesture is in my mind an example of what kind of man you have married. Those women do such a great job displaying their faith and helping the most vulnerable people. Luca Salvi

My most sincere condolences to your family on the loss of George. I learned a lot from him when I was a graduate student at Penn, working for Larry Sneddon. I would not have been able to get my Ph. D. without his assistance and help on NMR experiments required for my project. I will always remember him, he was tough, but also a gentle person, always willing to help others.

George....you were always a welcome face to see and the source of many great conversations throughout the years. You were always a source of pragmatism, and sharp humor and I cherish both of those qualities in you. I was dumbfounded when I heard the news and for the most part remain speechless. My heartfelt best wishes to your family through this time and I hope, sincerely, wherever you are you are as sincere and sharp as you were in life. I will miss you greatly!

George was a force to be reckoned with at the University of Pennsylvania.
I have many stories of George going the extra mile to help me and my colleagues both design and perform critical experiments.
Thankfully, George was always there for us when things went wrong, too.
After my time at PENN, George continued to be a valuable resource to me and my coworkers.
I relied on George's expert guidance when needing to perform experiments that would have been impossible in our less-sophisticated NMR facility.
His knowledge, advice, helpfulness, patience, generosity, and occasional scolding will be greatly missed.
For all his kindness, I thank him.
My deepest condolences to his family.

I am deeply saddened to hear that George passed away. I always enjoyed talking with him at the Asilomar Experimental Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Conferences. In 2015 we must have had half of the week's meals together. George was a really nice guy and was a real asset to the University of Pennsylvania. People like him who are really competent and still very approachable and easy going can be a tremendous asset to both undergraduate and graduate students. I know that working with people like him helped to encourage me to enter graduate school. While at the 2017 Conference I ended up not getting to talk with him that much and I left thinking I needed to fix that in 2019. I am very sad that I will not have that opportunity.
My sincerest condolences.
