E. Garey Washburn, 68, of Washington Crossing, Pennsylvania, passed away on May 12th, 2018. He leaves behind the broken hearts of his wife of thirty-two years, Mary Ann Sloan Washburn, his daughters, Julia Ann Coolahan and Molly Sloan Washburn, his friend and son-in-law, Kevin William Coolahan, Poppy's two precious granddaughters, Keely Jean Coolahan and Clare Ann Coolahan, his big brother, Richard S. Washburn and his wife Kathy, numerous nieces and nephews, and his special pup, Jasmine.
Born on August 15th, 1949, Garey was the son of the late Richard Horace Washburn and Julia Stevenson Washburn. He grew up on the Delaware River in Yardley as well as spent summers on his family's sailboat in Island Heights. He loved sailing the Barnegat Bay and Toms River, anchoring at Barnegat Light.
Garey was a U.S. Navy veteran having served in Vietnam as a helicopter electronics technician.
He created a beautiful life for his family along the Delaware in Washington Crossing. Family was his priority and his girls were number one. He loved sharing his love of the river with everyone - from pontooning, tubing, fishing and slalom skiing.
Garey owned and operated Makefield Gardens in Yardley for many years. He then worked as a realtor in the Bucks County area. He could fix anything, loved working outside, rescued many dogs and was a car and boat enthusiast. Garey was a kind, gentle, generous soul, who was loved dearly. His bear hugs and sense of humor will be greatly missed.
Garey's family will receive condolences from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. followed by his service on Tuesday, May 22nd at FitzGerald-Sommer Funeral Home, 17 South Delaware Avenue, Yardley, PA. Interment will follow in Washington Crossing National Cemetery, 830 Highland Road, Newtown, PA. In lieu of flowers, to honor Garey's passion for rescuing dogs donations can be made to Justice Rescue, P.O. Box 122, Woodlyn, PA 19094.
