Albert Sracic
Albert Sracic, 92, formerly of Gladstone, NJ passed away on March 5 at his current home in Langhorne, PA surrounded by his wife and children.
Born in St. Michael, PA Albert enlisted in the U.S. Air Force immediately after graduating from high school. Following his honorable discharge from the military, he earned a B.S. degree in Television Engineering from the American Television Institute in Chicago.
He moved to New Jersey in 1955 and was employed for most of his career in various technical and research positions at Union Carbide in Bound Brook. While there he co-authored multiple patents on biodegradable plastics.
Albert and his wife Elizabeth moved to Peapack-Gladstone in 1961. He served as Mayor of the twin borough from 1975-1978. Prior to being elected mayor, he was a member of the town council from 1969 until he was elected mayor. He was very proud of helping to establish and lead the Frank J. Gallo Scholarship fund. He was also instrumental in designing the first Emergency Management plan for Peapack-Gladstone.
He was an active member of St. Brigid Parish in Peapack, NJ volunteering countless hours to the church.
He was predeceased by his parents, Karl and Mary Sracic (nee Mihacevich); brothers, John, Matthew, Zvonimir, and Steve; and sisters Rose and Mary. Albert is survived by his wife of 61 years Elizabeth (nee Borenish); his daughter Janet (Austin) Cahill; his son Paul (Susan) Sracic, and granddaughters Katya Sracic, Anna Sracic, Emily Cahill, and Sarah Cahill.
A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Brigid Church in Peapack, NJ at 11 am on Tuesday, March 10. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the mass.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in memory of Albert may be made to the Peapack-Gladstone First Aid & Rescue Squad.
