Charles L. Minter
Charles L. Minter, 81, of Lower Makefield Township, PA died on Friday July 28, 2023, at Sunrise of Lower Makefield.
Born in Shreveport, LA, a son of the late Allan Sheldon Minter and Nora Laskey Minter, formerly of Miami, FL, he has resided in Lower Makefield for the past 53 years.
After graduating from Central Catholic high school in Fort Lauderdale, FL, Charlie attended Mercersburg Academy in PA for a year of post graduate studies before enrolling at Florida State University in Tallahassee FL. At FSU, he became a member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity and, as an upperclassman, its President. He was a proud Seminole graduate and alumnus throughout his life. After serving in the US Coast Guard, Charlie began his career in finance at Merrill, Lynch in Miami and in 1970 moved to its institutional sales division in New York City.
Charlie and Dottie settled in Lower Makefield to raise their growing family and, while commuting to work, he also received an MBA from NYU Stern School of Business. He moved on from Merrill Lynch in 1986 to found Comstock Partners, Inc. in New York City where he enjoyed great success as its Fund Manager. Charlie was often cited in articles by Barons and other financial publications for his strategic approach in evaluating market risks.
Besides his impressive business career, Charlie's boundless energy also could be found in a variety of family and community activities. He served on the Board of the St. Mary Medical Center Foundation and also a supporter of CHOP (Childrens Hospital of Philadelphia). Charlie and Dottie were active tennis players at Trenton Country Club and were regulars at Club swimming and golfing events. He also founded the Newtown Racquetball Club (now the Newtown Athletic Club). Charlie enjoyed playing cards with his friends. Charlie had a wide circle of friends who could always count on his infectious enthusiasm for whatever activity was on hand.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Kohlman Minter; his daughter, Kristin Minter of Lower Makefield, PA; three sons and a daughter-in-law, Charles L. and Annasue Minter, Jr. of Tallahassee, FL, Derek Minter of Saugatuck, MI, and Michael Minter of Newtown, PA; his brother and sister-in-law, Allan S. and Betty Minter, of Jacksonville, FL; a sister and brother-in-law, Marilyn Minter and Bill Miller of New York, NY, and six grandchildren, Charles, III, Kohlman, Kendall, Jetsen, Trey, and Cade.
