Dearest Miriam, Chris and Family,
As May 12th approaches, I'm thinking your dear father and my faithful friend in the Lord, Pastor Claycombe.
Wonderful thoughts of a dear friend who will always hold a special place in my heart. Oh...how he blessed my life! With love and prayers, Sharleine

Dear Miriam and Extended Family:
It is with sadness that I learned today of your father’s passing.
The Rev and I worked closely together in the early 80’s providing meals for our Candidate orientations for folks interested in serving in cross cultural ministries at Arab World Ministries. My belated husband, Rev. Willam J. Saal and I enjoyed working alongside of your father. I enjoyed going grocery shopping with him, in his playful way he would tell me he needed me to go with him to do the shopping and he would supply the “greenies” meaning $$ to pay for everything. It was quite an adventure.
Oh how much he loved your Mom, Gracie!
May the Lord provide His comfort, His strength and His peace at this time.

"The Rev" was always a smiling, friendly presence when he attended the Morrisville-Yardley Area Rotary Club where he was a member for many years. I got to know him as a very supportive and dear friend.

Pastor Claycombe was my pastor and friend! He was the one that challenged me to go into the ministry in the LCMS. I was proud to be one of his acolytes in worship and to be able to cut the grass at the parsonage each week. There was always cookies and fresh lemonade in the breezeway when the job was done. Howard was the one I went to to begin the process of starting my education to be a pastor. Just a few months ago I talked with Howard and laughed over a baptism that he did on a Saturday at church. There was a problem. He forgot to put a clerical shirt on at home but he was wearing a white dress shirt. He took the shirt off and I buttoned up his back and he put a gown on to cover the dressing mistake. Several years ago Howard was called to a small church of the English District in Michigan. The District President asked me as a VP of the District and living near by in Ontario to go and install him as the pastor! What a role reversal for me. We had a great time after the service sharing stories over a few drinks! He will always be the formative pastor for my life. As I shared with him my 50 years celebration of my ministry at St. Mark’s Ontario we share our love for one another and how God has richly blessed us!

Dearest Miriam, Chris and family,
My deepest sympathies and sincere condolences go out to you today, as you mourn the loss of your dear father and grandfather.
Howard and I shared a special friendship kept alive with cards, letters and phone calls. It was always a joy for either of us to receive a call from the other. Howard encouraged me in the Lord and was a true blessing in my life. He always saw the good in others and quieted my spirit when it needed quieting. I first met Pastor when he came back to St. Mark's Mississauga sometime after he had served the church. Jack and I were very taken with his gentle ways and kept in touch from that day forward. I shall miss his phone calls and voice messages. I learned so much more about Pastor Howard from his Obituary. A life well lived in service to the Lord and all with whom he came to know. Rest in peace Pastor.
Until we meet again, as we often discussed,
Your friend in Christ Jesus,
Sharleine

This is my dear friend Howard 'The Rev' on his 93rd birthday. I had always hoped I'd get down to PA for an in person visit. But we kept close in heart and spirit with cards, letters and phone calls through the years.

Howard 'The Rev' had always dreamed of taking the Canadian Rocky Mountaineer train trip. Canada was blessed to have had him as a faithful Pastor at St. Mark's Mississauga.
