I had the pleasure of working with Amy during her fellowship years at Penn. She immediately struck me as both a great physician and also great surgeon. I'll never forget the night she, Emily, and I went out as I was leaving Penn. The laughter and friendship are memories I'll have forever and embody how I'll remember her. RIP Amy. I'm sorry our own chosen profession let you down so overtly.

Dearest Hooman and Family,
It has been a while since we have spoken, but I never stopped thinking about you and Amy. Those were special times in Philadelphia all those years ago. I remember well you and Amy's courtship, and how you guys got together. Would you have had the courage without my prank email from your sister that Amy really liked you? Well of course you guys were destined to be together, but I would like to think that I played my part, and your discussion with Amy over it did break some ice. Funny how she liked you from the start, but didn't want to admit it. Hence the plot for the email was hatched. I thought you guys were great together even before you guys became such a professional and political force. With Hanh in Seattle during those years, your friendship (along with Amy, Negin, and Siri and the gang) was really really important to me and certainly kept me going. Going to eat in Chinatown after every other source of food was closed, swimming at Pine Barrens, Sambuca at Mama Yolandas, and hitting me with a water balloon at my birthday (followed by a sequence of beverages) were just a few of the flashbacks I just had. You and Amy touched my life very profoundly, and in her passing, I simply pressed replay and cycled through these events in my mind, and was moved once again.
So I thank you and Amy, not for the last time, for being an integral and immovable part of my life.
Love, Ian

Dear Reed Family: Please accept my sincere condolences for the loss of your dear loved one, Amy. It breaks our hearts when death separates us from the ones we love so much especially when they are as young as Amy. The Bible assures us that God sees our pain and sorrow and has promised that soon, "death will be swallowed up forever." (Isaiah 25:8) He will heal our broken hearts by resurrecting our precious loved ones to life again. (John 6:40) Until then, I hope the beautiful memories of Amy and these promises from God comfort you in the days to come.

There is a beautiful ship leaving the harbor on a lovely day, under clear skies. As she sails away on the blue ocean, white sails billowing, finally leaving the horizon, many people say, "There she goes." That horizon is only the limit of our line of sight, for on the other side, as that ship sails gracefully into the harbor, God's Angels, Amy's family and friends(whom have gone on before), and many others joyfully exclaim, " Here she comes!" May you find peace and rest with The Lord during this time.

Dr Amy Reed Thank you for your love & dedication to women throughout the world. You have given hope.
Your Legacy is Hope and Love. Your commitment to patient safety reminds me of the words of St Francis of Assisi
"Lord, make me an instrument of your peace,
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
where there is sadness, joy;
O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
to be understood as to understand;
to be loved as to love."
For it is in giving that we receive;
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life."

Dear Dr. Hooman Noorchashm:
Dear extended Family of Dr. Amy Reed and Dr. Hooman Noorchashm:
Please accept my heart-felt condolences.
I cannot put in words my utter respect and admiration of these extraordinary physician colleagues, Amy and Hooman. Their spousal love for, and support of, each other deeply impressed me. Their dedication to patient safety is awesome. They made more than a dent into hard shell of institutions, Ivy League and beyond, which are more interested to protect their reputation and financial well-being than to honestly admit failure.
During my training at Ivy League schools I realized that not all is gold, that constructive critique gets often frowned upon - or worse. Sadly, too many of our colleagues are more concerned about their career progress than standing up for what is right, what is ethically imperative.
At the Southeast's largest public hospital we are setting up - against an administration which was unresponsive to scores of my concerns - a citizen advisory committee to monitor quality of care, among other clinical and administrative aspects. I cannot be fired as I have retired. Amy's and Hoorman's example will be my guidance.
Hooman, my heart and mind are with you...

It was not to be but I hope there is some peace in that you both fought the hard fight and gave so much of yourselves in your efforts to stop an evil practice of using medical equipment that was unneccessary and created the possibility of a spreading death instead of curing it.

Amy, as Molly's little sister, I admired you as my sister's VJM high school friend. At the time, I was in elementary school at St. Andrew's. You would drive over to our house in Langhorne in your big, white station wagon (with a broken odometer) and come through our back door. Your long, black hair was usually piled on top of your head, wearing a tee shirt and no make-up...and you were always a vision of a super model. And that was just the shell to your brilliant mind. Molly has valued carrying you as a close friend through life. She has always updated our family on your academic & career accomplishments, as well as when you welcomed each of your beautiful children - which we all knew were your life's greatest joy. We would shake our heads in awe with each update, wondering how you did it all... but then, you were amazing Amy...of course you did it all. I am so sorry your life has been cut way too short, but your legacy and spirit will live on in all of us who understood how special you were. I will continue to pray for peace for all of those who loved you, especially for your devoted partner, Hooman, and your beautiful children. I am certain we will all see you again. Save a seat on the back bench in that white station wagon for Mol's little sister who wants to tag along for a ride in Heaven. God bless you.

Please accept my sympathies. Having signed the petition early on and followed all the subsequent posts, I feel as if I came, in some small way, to know your family. I felt a pang of sadness when I read of Dr. Reed’s passing.
You have my condelences and also my affection, respect, and admiration for the many ways in which you have all coped so nobly and magnanimously with this tragedy. You set a standard for all to aspire to.
Godspeed.

A remarkable journey whose only reason for being was to protect innocent women from becoming unknowing victims.
A journey began with one person, a terminally ill woman, joined by a loving husband in total commitment to the goal of preventing an unnecessary catastrophe for many they would never know personally.
A journey of salvation for many, a journey that belonged to Amy and Hooman and one which Amy gave her life for.
Yes, there are GUARDIAN angels who are present among the living.
Amy was surely one of them and she has returned to her final home.
REST IN PEACE

My deepest sympathy to everyone in Amy's family and friends.I never had the honor of knowing Amy but thru her grade school friends who became my friends at Bishop Conwell. They posted asking for prayers for their friend and to share Amy's story. To me Amy is a hero ,because of her vow as Doctor of Medicine she fought hard for everyone along with herself.Be proud of her life and standing up for women. Hold on to each special memory that you have.Her babies are her greatest achievement in her life.

My deepest sympathy to Dr Reed-Dr Noorchashm families. I've followed Amy's triumphs and her struggles with the iatrogenic complications of her cancer diagnosis. I salute the efforts she has contributed, along with her husband, to make changes for patient-safety for women's health.
May the love of her remarkable life as a physician, and mostly as a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend to many help carry you through the grief that follows her passing. ( I lost my own son, five years ago, at age 25, so understand the pain you live with forever). Her life will live within each of you.
