Obituary of Peter B. Obbard
Peter Buckle Obbard, 92, of Newtown, PA died on April 26, 2024. Peter was born in Pittsburgh, PA to Norman Buckle and Doris Christina (Williams) Obbard on August 31,1931.
He attended Sewickley Academy, St. Andrews School, and Princeton University, later earning an MBA at Harvard Business School. He served two years in the US Army, and worked in sales and marketing for Pittsburgh Plate Glass, and then as a stockbroker for Smith Barney. Peter was a voracious reader who loved history, antiques and museums. In his retirement he volunteered at Winterthur Museum in Delaware, and served as the first chair of the endowment committee for the town library of Southwest Harbor, ME, where he spent the summers. His last years were spent happily at Pennswood Village in Newtown.
Peter is survived by four children, Catherine E. Obbard of Florence, MA; Philip B. Obbard of Albany, CA; Ted G. Obbard and wife Julie of Berkeley, CA; and Laura O. Brightman and husband Howard of Cambridge, MA; as well as seven grandchildren, Kyle McBard and Treva and David Obbard, Rachel and Evan Obbard, Lincoln Craven-Brightman and Daniel Brightman; and his brother James Obbard and wife Diana, of Winchester, MA. He is preceded in death by his wife Judith Rhoads Obbard, his parents, and his twin brother John Obbard and wife Evie.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 18, 2024 at 1pm at St. Andrews Church, 47 West Afton Avenue, Yardley, PA, followed by a reception at the Pennswood Village Newman Lounge. A celebration of life will be held summer 2024 in Southwest Harbor.
