Richard Adams

Obituary of Richard O. Adams

Please share a memory of Richard to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Richard (Dick) Ogden Adams was born August 25, 1940 to Ogden M. Adams and Marjorie Billings Adams. He died peacefully on September 10, 2024.

He was preceded in death by his older sister, Jean Adams Chadwick (Tom), his younger brother, John C. Adams and his nephew Brian Adams. He is survived by many in-laws, nieces and nephews [Randy (Paula), Donna (Eric), and Troy (Kathleen)], grand nieces and nephews [Alex (Adam), Laura (Lewis), Samantha, Ryan (Sabrina), Scott, Connor, Tamsyn, and Paige], and one great grandnephew (Simon).

Dick's early childhood was spent in Morrisville, Pa. His family moved to Yardley where Dick lived the remainder of his life. He attended the Pennsbury School District where he graduated in the class of 1958. In 1962, he entered the US Navy and served four years being discharged honorably in 1966.

After leaving the navy Dick was employed at Occidental Chemical in New Jersey from which he retired several years ago. He was a lifelong railroad fan and published raitroad photographer. He amassed over 70,000 railroad photographs in his private collection, spanning more than half a century, traveling to several foreign countries and to all 50 states to do so. The most recent issue of Trains and Railroads of the Past magazine featured two of his photographs on the cover and included a twenty-six-page article about his contributions to railfanning. He enjoyed stamp collecting and gardening, frequently producing many quarts of home-made applesauce.

The only thing that he loved more than trains was his family. He personally cared for his parents in their last days and did the same for his brother.

He will be greatly missed by friends, family, and all others whose lives he touched.
