Zoe Lance posted a condolence
Tuesday, December 31, 2024
I ‘m married to Charles Lance who submitted his memory earlier but I want to mention a memory of mine.
I met Tom when we were a young married couple living on St. Simon’s Island , GA. My husband worked at the Thiokol plant about an hour away and I was teaching. As Tom
came a few times to see about affairs at the work location he immediately impressed me as man who loved his wife and children, and an honest man free of trying to impress.
Later when we moved to Bucks County and he and Eleanor were so gracious and helpful in acclimating us to life in Pennsylvania. Through the years in whatever interaction we had with Tom one aspect rang true: He was a kind man and one of great integrity.
Grateful to know your father, please accept my sincere condolences.

Q: How did you meet Thomas?
A: I worked for Thiokol at a remote facility in South Georgia to start. I knew nothing about Labor Relations. Tom came down from corporate office and tutored me through my first negotiation and later a strike. He facilitated a move for me to division headquarters in Trenton, NJ. He had me to his home when I was living in a motel before my family came. He introduced me to Rusty Nails, a drink. We all moved to Chicago after the Morton Salt purchase. When I became the HR VP at a startup company in Memphis, he came and was instrumental in setting up an administrative framework working for me this time. Tom was a mentor to me and a friend. We sort of lost contact in the later years but I recall the wonderful cards he sent from his paintings. Tom was a good guy. He helped me achieve what I did in my career and more importantly, my life. Rest in Peace my friend.
