Florence K. Washko (known as Flossie), 89, loving wife, mother, and grandmother, died peacefully on Friday, January 6, 2023, in hospice care at Samaritan at Voorhees, N.J.
Born and raised in Kingston, PA, she was the daughter of the late Dr. Frank J. Kozik and Eleanor Golomb Kozik and beloved wife of the late John F. Washko. She had been a Morrisville resident since 1956 until her move to Juniper Village of Bensalem in August 2022.
She graduated from St. Ann's Academy, Wilkes-Barre; received her certificate in Dental Hygiene from the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, PA; and her bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Misericordia University, Dallas, PA. Florence worked in Wilkes-Barre area schools for four years before her marriage to John, and when her children were in school, substitute taught in St. John the Evangelist School for a few years before returning to the practice of Dental Hygiene. She was employed for 17 years as a Dental Hygienist by Drs. Hewson and Ollio, Yardley, PA.
Florence and her husband John were founding members of St. John the Evangelist Parish, Lower Makefield Township, PA.
After retiring, Flossie enjoyed volunteering at Capital Health System, Fuld Division, for more than 700 hours. She also enjoyed traveling with John, attending local theater productions, vacationing at the Jersey Shore, playing and teaching Mah Jongg, following the Phillies and Eagles, and spending time with family and friends (especially when playing competitive games.
She was predeceased by John, her husband of 52 years, in 2009. She is survived by her daughter Susan (Lorraine) of Charlottesville, VA; her son John (Lisa) of Canton, CT; her daughter Judy (Al) and granddaughter Miranda of Mickleton, NJ; her sister Betty Lou (Louie) of Denville, NJ; two special grand-nieces Susi and Ali (Herb) of Pittsburgh, PA; a large extended family of nieces, nephews, and cousins; and many good friends. She will be greatly missed.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, January 12, at 10:30 AM at St. John the Evangelist Church, Big Oak and Makefield Roads, Morrisville. Visitation will be held at the church before Mass, from 9:00 AM – 10:30 AM. Burial will be at Our Lady of Grace Cemetery, Langhorne.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Pennsbury Society (for Pennsbury Manor), Morrisville, PA or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Memphis, TN.
